Call for Papers

Papers are invited for presentation at the Wei-Wen Yu International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel Structures 2018. The conference will include the following subjects concerning cold-formed steel:

- basic and applied research
- structural design
- development of new products
- development of new design criteria
- manufacturing technique
- construction methods
- economy and effective use of cold-formed steel
- engineering education

General Information

Since 1971, 23 international specialty conferences on cold-formed steel structures have been conducted in Rolla, MO, St. Louis, MO, Orlando, FL, and Baltimore, MD. As in past conferences, it is expected that leading researchers, engineers, manufacturers, and educators who have engaged in research, design, manufacture, and the use of cold-formed steel members will present detailed discussions of their recent findings.

Continuing education units: 1.6 CEU.

Submission of Abstracts

Abstract will be reviewed for topic suitability, and final acceptance will be based on the complete manuscript. Papers accepted for presentation will be published in the proceedings made available at the conference.

The deadline for abstract submission is December 1, 2017. Upon acceptance of abstracts, final manuscripts will be due by April 3, 2018.

Location and Accommodations

The host hotel for this event is the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, 1820 Market Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63103. This AAA-approved, Four Diamond hotel is located within the historic St. Louis Union Station, which was originally built in 1894. Today, Union Station is a balance of nostalgia and renovation.

The stylish and sophisticated Grand Hall features 65-foot ceilings and archways that reach to the sky, frescoes, gold leaf detailing and the Allegorical Window, handmade stained glass window with hand-cut Tiffany glass which features three women representing the main US train stations during the 1890s - New York, St. Louis and San Francisco.

Starting in 2017, new attractions include train-themed guest rooms and food outlets, a renovated outdoor plaza featuring The St. Louis Wheel, a 200 foot tall observation ferris wheel, a new train park and 3D-animated light and fire shows at the lake.

The hotel is conveniently located in downtown St. Louis, and is just minutes away from the Arch, sports venues, Scottrade Center and the Peabody Opera House. Other attractions and destinations are easily accessed using the Metrolink rail system located very near the hotel. Metrolink also provides direct access to Lambert International Airport.

The special room block rate is $179 for single/double per night. Please note that the cutoff date for room reservations is October 7, 2018.

Conference Awards

Wei-Wen Yu Outstanding Paper Award will be presented for the best student authored or co-authored paper at the conference. The student must present the paper at the conference and the paper must be based on the thesis or research of either an M.S. or Ph.D. student.

Wei-Wen Yu Outstanding Student Scholars Awardwill be presented to qualified university students to provide travel reimbursement support to attend and present a paper at the conference. The student must be the main author, as well as presenter of the paper.

Advance registration is requested. The registration fee for the conference is:

$450 for speakers and session chairpersons
$560 for all other participants, except for approved students
$225 for approved students (please contact us for criteria to be considered for student registration)

The fee includes lunch buffet for November 7 and 8, reception on November 7, and a copy of the proceedings, which contains all technical papers presented at the conference.
